Only EC Directives provide a Whole vehicle type approval. For the different vehicle categories there are Framework Directives.
Within these Directives it is arranged which separate Directives or ECE Regulations are mandatory per category and is the type approval process is described.
From 29 April 2009, European Whole Vehicle Type Approval is also possible for trailers, trucks and buses.
After this, national type approval remains possible, but only for vehicle types produced in small series.
Some Directives mention special requirements, for example: In-Use-Compliance, Recyclability, Multi-Stage-Approvals and Dangerous Goods. On this site you can find some specific information about these items.
