The Transit Registration Certificate: the ideal solution for transit

The Transit Registration Certificate offers businesses and private individuals the ideal solution for temporary use on the roads of vehicles that are not registered in the Netherlands. Using the Transit Registration Certificate, which was introduced on 1 January 2007, vehicles that are subject to registration and that have not been registered in the Netherlands (or anywhere) can be used on the roads legally in any country in the world, both within and outside of Europe.

Netherlands Transit Registration Certificate

The Transit Registration Certificate complies with the requirements as laid down in international treaties. This means that the certificate includes the vehicle identification number, the date of the initial certification, and the maximum volume. Whenever an application for the new document is filed, the vehicle is examined for the purpose of ascertaining its identity and, if it is subject to periodical roadworthiness inspections, its technical condition. This ensures that the vehicle is safe. The Transit Registration Certificate is valid for up to two weeks from the date of issue.

The design of the Transit Registration Certificate differs from the standard Dutch registration document. It has highly advanced security features designed to make the document as fraud- proof as possible. These features include micro text , an ultraviolet pattern, and an iris detection system. More information about these features can be found at rdw website.

The number plates that go with the Transit Registration Certificate have a white background and black numbers and letters, as does the Dutch export version. The combination of numbers and letters is also the same as the one on export number plates: two groups of three letters and numbers.

The Transit Registration Certificate is intended for transit of vehicles that have not been registered in the Netherlands. This type of vehicles often originates from a foreign country and is brought to a different country from the Netherlands. Vehicles manufactured in the Netherlands are also eligible. In order to export vehicles registered in the Netherlands by road, the export registration document is still required.
