Applying for an operator nummer
The owner of a drone is referred to as the operator. The operator registers by applying for an operator number. This also applies to companies that deploy drones and own 1 or multiple drones. You only need 1 operator number, even if you have multiple drones.
When registration is required
- If you are the owner of a drone or unmanned aircraft with a camera or weighing 250 grams or more.
- If you fly someone else’s drone with a camera or weighing 250 grams or more.
- If you own a toy drone weighing 250 grams or more. Whether or not the drone has a camera is irrelevant in this regard.
How to apply for an operator number
You must be registered in the Dutch Basic Registration of Persons (BRP) in order to apply for an operator number. Is the application on behalf of a company? Apply for an operator number with DigiD Apply for an operator number with eHerkenning
Apply for an operator number using the ‘Apply for an operator number’ button. Sign in with DigiD or eHerkenning (company). If you are applying on behalf of a company, you will also need a business registration number. You can find it on the excerpt or website of the Chamber of Commerce (KvK). A business registration number is not mandatory if you don't have one.

You will receive your operator number by email.

Attach the section before the dash to the exterior of the drone in a visible location (e.g. with a sticker). Leave out the final 3 characters. This will prevent others from using your operator number. If you have multiple drones, the operator number applies to all your drones and must be applied to each one. In addition, you can program the number into the drone if possible.

If you are subject to the insurance requirement and/or have a flying permit, you will have to add it to the operator details on record.
