Registering or suspending a vehicle at a registration desk only with a driving licence from 2026

Do you want to register or suspend a vessel or vehicle in your name at a kentekenloket (registration desk) in 2026? Or do you want to register a vehicle in your name at an RDW-approved company? From January 2026, this will only be possible with a valid Dutch driving licence. Due to privacy considerations, RDW-approved companies may no longer use an ID card or passport for this purpose.

No Dutch driving licence?

If you do not have a valid Dutch driving licence, please use our online services at rdw.nl/overschrijven and rdw.nl/schorsen, or visit an RDW inspection station or RDW service counter. There, you can still register or suspend a vehicle in your name using a valid identity card or passport.
