Tolltickets kicks off approval process for truck toll
In early October, the RDW and tolltickets signed an EETS agreement (European Electronic Toll Service). The signing marks the start of the process to approve tolltickets as a toll service provider for the Dutch truck toll system in the Netherlands, scheduled for 1 July 2026. From that date, truck owners will pay per kilometre.
This move further expands the possible range of service providers, so truck owners will soon be able to choose from several parties that will provide them with on-board equipment (OBU) and manage the truck toll payments.
Accessible and reliable
The RDW values a broad and reliable range of service providers. "Each new participant in the approval process increases the choice available to truck owners," said Jan Strijk, Tolling Director at the RDW. “That will help ensure a smooth introduction of the truck toll and the provision of good customer service.”
Quentin Couret, Managing Director at tolltickets GmbH, expressed his delight at the signing:"Our collaboration with the RDW is an important milestone in the expansion of the service offering of toll tickets. The Netherlands is centrally located on Europe’s main freight routes and we are happy to help our customers with a seamless solution."
Tolltickets fifth provider in approval process
Tolltickets is a leading provider of toll payments and services with more than 500,000 customers around the world. Tolltickets is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kapsch TrafficCom. Kapsch is a global leader in electronic toll collection systems and operations, with references in more than 50 countries on six continents.
Earlier, toll service providers Axxès, Telepass, Toll4Europe and TotalEnergies signed an agreement with the RDW. With the addition of tolltickets, there are now five parties willing to offer payment of truck tolls in the Netherlands according to the European electronic toll system. Users can use these providers to pay tolls in several European countries. More providers may follow. The growing supply is important for a user-friendly and efficient truck tolling system in the Netherlands. In addition to these parties, there is the national provider NedLinq. They provide services exclusively within the Netherlands.
About the truck toll
The truck toll is scheduled to start on 1 July 2026. From that date onwards, truck owners will pay per kilometre on almost all highways and some provincial and municipal roads. The cleaner and lighter the vehicle, the lower the amount per kilometre. The toll applies to Dutch and foreign vehicles in categories N2 and N3. Following the launch of the truck toll, motor vehicle tax will disappear for trucks up to 12,000 kilograms. Motor vehicle tax for trucks weighing 12,000 kilograms or more will be significantly reduced. The Eurovignette for the Netherlands will end on 1 July 2026.
