Registration code lost

If you have lost your registration code, and you need it to sell, export, suspend or scrap your vehicle, for example, be sure to request a new code. You will receive the entire 9-digit code at once. The old code will no longer be valid. The registration number remains the same.

Conditions

You have the vehicle registration card. With a paper registration certificate, you were never issued a registration code. Have you lost your vehicle registration card or part of your paper vehicle registration certificate? Request a new one via Lost vehicle registration certificate.
The vehicle is registered in the name of a person or company. Is it a leased vehicle? Only the leasing or financing company can apply for a new registration code.

Requesting a code with DigiD or eHerkenning

Click on 'Download registration code with DigiD' if the vehicle is registered in your name. Use 'Download registration code with eHerkenning' if the vehicle is registered in your company's name.

Follow the steps and pay the fee using .
You will receive two emails from us within a few minutes. The first is a confirmation of your request. The second email contains a link to the registration code. You may need to sign in again to download the code.
Save the file containing the code and keep it in a safe place. After 40 days, you will no longer be able to download the code.

Look up the reporting code. You will find it on the registration certificate and the registration report. The reporting code consists of the last 4 digits of the vehicle identification number. If you are not in possession of the code, Learn more at Request a reporting code.
Go to 'Request registration code'.
Select 'Request registration code only'.
Pay the fee using .
The owner/holder of the vehicle will receive the complete code by mail. We will send the code within a few days to the address registered with the local authority. Or to the address where the company is registered with the Chamber of Commerce. The old code will no longer be valid. When the owner/holder will receive the code depends on the postal service.

You can also request a registration code at a counter or inspection station. The vehicle must be registered in your name or your company's name. Or you are the authorised signatory of the company.

Go to a counter in Veendam or Zoetermeer or an inspection station and bring the following documents:

The vehicle registration certificate
A valid ID, passport, driving licence or another valid form of identification (only available in Dutch)
An extract from the Chamber of Commerce if the vehicle is registered in the name of a company. The extract must not be older than 1 year.

A registration code is linked to the vehicle registration certificate. The code consists of 9 digits. When you purchase a vehicle, you will receive the code in two parts. You will need this code if you wish to sell (transfer ownership of), suspend, export or scrap a vehicle.
