Collector SORNing scheme expanded to vehicles of all ages

16 December 2020 - In order to meet the needs of companies with a large stationary fleet during this lockdown, we are expanding the collector SORNing scheme. This will take effect on Friday, 18 December, provisionally for the period up to and including 19 January 2021. From 18 December, the collector scheme will temporarily be open to all vehicles, irrespective of age. It is not possible to apply the scheme retroactively.

SORNing (Statutory Off Road Notice)

By SORNing a vehicle, the owner does not need to satisfy the vehicle obligations for a certain period (insurance, road tax and any PTI). It is possible to un-SORN a vehicle for free at any time.

Free from sixth vehicle

This collector scheme normally only applies to vehicles aged 15 years or older, and mopeds and low-performance mopeds with an initial licensing date of 31/08/2005 or older on the registration number. This scheme is now therefore temporarily available to all vehicles, irrespective of age. You only need to pay to SORN 5 of these vehicles. SORNing is free from the sixth vehicle.

Be aware of ending the SORNing within 1 month

If you end the SORNing within 1 month of the start of SORNing, you will still need to pay road tax over the period in which the registration number was SORNed. The Tax Office will then send you a revised tax assessment. See the  deze link opent in een nieuw venster TaxOffice website for more information.
