Registering a vehicle in a person’s name after the death of its owner

If the registered owner/keeper of a vehicle dies, the RDW will be automatically notified of this via the Personal Records Database (BRP).

The vehicle cannot remain in the name of the deceased owner and must be transferred. For more information, go to inheriting a vehicle. Unfortunately, this information is only available in Dutch.
