The vehicle registration card has a unique code, the registration code, which has 9 digits. You receive the first part of the code when you make your payment and the second part is with the vehicle registration card the RDW sends you.
You combine the two parts of the code yourself. You need this code to sell, trade in, scrap, demolish or export your vehicle. This is why it is important to keep the registration code safe.
If the vehicle belongs to a lease company or financing company, you will not receive a registration code. In this case, a so-called issuance restriction (verstrekkingsvoorbehoud) will be made for this license number in the register of vehicle registration certificates. This means that the lease company or financing company always receives the registration code.
